How to install Basswood Venetian Blinds
1 - Getting Started
This tried and true window furnishing is the great all rounder with classic design and robust materials. Plus, it's a breeze to install.
Unpack your boxes, remove the outer plastic wrapping and look out for the label affixed to the wrapping on your venetian blind which shows your product name & basic specs. Get all your parts organised and be sure to keep the soft foam wrapping attached to your pieces to prevent any pre-intallation marks and scratches.
- 1 to 2 people
- A metal tape measure
- A pencil
- Step Ladder
- Drill with phillips head drill bit
- 3mm drill bit for pilot holes
5-10 mins
2 - Your fitting
You'll be installing the venetian blinds brackets inside of your window frame. The brackets have multiple fixing points, however to achieve maximum coverage ensure to install the screws through the bracket into the top of your recess.
It only takes a few minutes to install your new venetian blinds, so let's get started.
3 - What's in the box?
Open up the cardboard box(es) you've received. Open the outer layer of plastic surrounding your blind(s). You'll notice some bracket componentry, a blue plastic bag containing the child safety clip and a bag of screws. There'll be one bag with all the screws for each of the blinds you've ordered - there's approximately 2 screws per bracket.
*NOTE: Because your venetian blind is fully customised, the components in your order may differ from those pictured here. Don’t worry, we promise you’ll have everything you need and all the extras you’ve asked for.
4 - Mark up
Gather your brackets, the number of brackets may differ depending on the length of your blind.
Lift each bracket to the top of your recess with each bracket flush with the top of your recess. Make two marks through the top of the bracket with your pencil as shown in the image.
Make sure the back of the bracket is at least 10mm any obstructions.
5 - Install your brackets
Now you'll be drilling pilot holes for your brackets and then installing them with the supplied screws.
Pop the 3mm drill bit into your drill and pre-drill holes for each of the venetian blind brackets where you've marked in the previous step.
Repeat for all brackets.
Install your end brackets by holding each up and drilling a screw through the pilot hole. One in each top corner of your recess.
Install your center bracket by holding each up and drilling a screw through the pilot hole into the top of recess. Making sure that it sits an equal distance from both of your end brackets, in the middle of your window frame.
6 - Slide on your valance clips
Before you install your blinds, you need to attach your valance clips to your headrail. Do this by simply sliding each one over the lip of the headrail and evenly spacing them along the front of the blind.
Without the clips, you cannot attach your valance for a sleek finish, be sure not to skip this step.
7 - Install your blind
You're nearly there. Simply slot your venetian blind into your already installed brackets and close the gates.
Lift up your venetian blind and push the headrail into all of your brackets smilutaneously. Simply slotting you blind into the back of your recess.
Now that your blind is snugly in place, secure it by closing the gates on each of your end brackets. Do this by pushing down on the extended arms on the front of each bracket until they clip onto the bottom of the bracket.
This means your blind is now intalled and secure. Great Job!
8 - Attach your valance
Attach your valance by lifting it up to your headrail and aligning the groove with the valance clips you attached earlier. Gently apply force until you here a satisfying 'click' sound, signifying your valance is secure and looking great.
9 - Optional: Install the hold down clip
Hold down clips are great for the longevity of your blind. Preventing your blind from swinging and taking some weight off of the headrail.
Use the screws provided to attach the base of the hold down clip to the bottom corner of your window recess.
Once attached, snap the hold down clip pin into the guide holes on the end of the blind’s bottom rail. Looking good!
10 - Child safety
If like us at Shadey, you take child safety seriously, make sure to follow the steps below.
Position your cleat inside your window recess at least 1600mm above the floor. With your pencil make marks onto the window frame.
Grab your drill and screw the cleat onto your window frame with the supplied screw.
Take the blind cord and wrap it around the cleat in a figure eight as seen in the image.
Congrats, your venetian blind is installed and you've secured the cord.
